  1. Thankfully, whether your Mac is frozen and non-responsive or you just want to shut down and go home right now, there's a keyboard shortcut that gets the job done.
  2. Safe mode: shift. Safe mode is a way of starting up your Mac that makes sure it performs certain.

Note: If you're using a Mac and are having trouble with the function keys, you may need to set your F keys to function as function keys. You can do this by going to System Preferences > Keyboard, going to the Keyboard area, and checking the 'Use all F1, F2, etc' box.

Aug 17, 2020 Shut down your Mac. Then press the power button to turn on your Mac. Then press and hold the keys as your Mac starts up. Wait a few seconds before pressing the keys, to give your Mac more time to recognize the keyboard as it starts up.
